You can get tested at Grand Central and Times Square's subway stations starting today
After weeks of hours-long lines at NYC's urgent cares and COVID-19 testing tents, New Yorkers can now get tested at two subway stations for free.
Although vaccinations have been offered at subway stations before, this is the first time state-funded COVID-19 PCR testing will be conducted there.
RECOMMENDED: You can now get $100 if you get the booster shot in NYC
Beginning today, Monday, December 27, walk-in PCR testing will be offered daily at the Times Square-42nd St subway station from 8am to 2pm and at Grand Central Terminal from 3 to 8pm. (Testing will not be available at these two locations on New Year's Day.)
Testing at five more locations across New York City will begin next week but the locations, days and times for testing will be announced soon.
"We are working to make testing as widely available and accessible as possible for New Yorkers," Governor Kathy Hochul said last week. "These new walk-in testing opportunities at our MTA subway stations will provide greater testing access and support our efforts to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe during this winter surge."
Anyone can get tested at these sites, no matter where they live.
In addition to the subway testing sites, Governor Hochul has added a few new state-run testing sites at the following locations:
