This beloved Long Island soft-serve shop just opened an outpost in Astoria

Just in time for the dog days of summer, Marvel Frozen Dairy—a beloved soft-serve ice cream spot based on Long Island—has opened an outpost in Astoria, Queens.

The Papageorge family first founded the dessert staple as a custard shop on Lido Beach, on Long Island, back in 1951. In 1986, another Greek family, the Kastafouros, took over the shop and added a slew of frozen treats to the menu.

Today, the Fragioudakis family owns the chain, which also counts a store on the Long Beach boardwalk in California as theirs. The latest operators have expanded the menu to includes a variety of cakes, slushies, shakes and even vegan and sugar-free options.

Needless to say, its 71-year-long Greek ownership streak makes this the ideal Astoria destination.

There are a ton of soft-serve and ice cream flavors to choose from—dulce de leche, mint chocolate chip, vanilla, pistachio, coffee, chocolate and strawberry, to name just a few—but it's the variety of toppings and crumbles available that make Marvel a delightful destination.

Choose from a list of usual suspects (sprinkles, chocolate chips, granola, hot fudge, strawberries, among others) or opt for a more creative options (carob chips, butterscotch, black cherry, marshmallow and maple walnuts, for example).

Of course, cool dessert season is just starting off, so make sure you have our list of best ice cream shops in New York by your side at all times.

Speaking of: Morgenstern's Finest Ice Cream is offering 40 new flavors this season, including very eclectic options like bubble gum, olive oil chocolate eggplant, pineapple salted egg yolk, tahini and jelly, coconut guava and raspberry lemongrass. Yes, you should try them mall.
