14 things to do, eat and see in NYC that we wish only took 54 minutes

Earlier this week, news broke that a $20 trillion tunnel could eventually link New York and London in 54 minutes.

Although the infrastructure project is not yet a viable one, we, of course, immediately rejoiced at the mere thought of being able to catch a production on the West End on any given day.

Our excitement, though, was rapidly followed by pangs of anxiety related to all the things we actually cannot do in New York in an hour. Lines and wait times are, in fact, part and parcel of life in this great city of ours.

Alas, we found a way to quell our panic and decided to sit down and actually list all the things we wish we could do in town in under 54 minutes. After all, if city planners will eventually be able to get us from midtown Manhattan to Notting Hill in, basically, no time, there is no reason why we shouldn't have faith that we will eventually get into Carbone without having to wait—right?

Below, a list of all the things we wish we could do in New York in 54 minutes:

1. Traveling cross-town during the United Nations General Assembly

2. Hailing a cab after a Broadway show

3. Snagging a table at Misi, Carbone, Sailor and plenty of other restaurants in New York

4. Getting into The Row's sample sale

5. Arriving to our destination on the L train

6. Finding a significant other

7. Landing a rent-stabilized apartment

8. The checkout line at Trader Joe's on the weekends

9. Getting ConEd on the phone

10. Changing trains at Broadway Junction

11. Finding a public bathroom

12. The line outside Apollo Bagels

13. Ordering from the Halal cart during lunch hour

14. Getting home on Halloween
