A fire has shuttered this favorite Queens Mexican restaurant
The Queens location of Mariscos El Submarino just shut down because of a fire that took place on Sunday.
According to the Citizen app, around 8:14am on Sunday, December 22, a 911 call was placed with reports of a fire at 88-01 Roosevelt Avenue in Flushing. Eventually, the address was updated to 88-03 Roosevelt, a two-story commercial building that shares a wall with the restaurant. As of yesterday morning, the Jackson Heights restaurant announced the closure on its Instagram page, written in both English and Spanish:
“To our Queens family:
Due to a fire, our Queens location is temporarily closed. Everyone is safe, and we’re working to reopen soon.
In the meantime, visit us at our Brooklyn location—we’d love to see you there.
Thank you for your support.”
Mariscos El Submarino opened in Jackson Heights in 2020. Its coastal Mexican cuisine, including ceviches, seafood tostadas and massive molcajetes have drawn a serious following, receiving a stellar review from the New York Times.
The cause of the fire was immediately unclear, however, its Greenpoint location is still open for business!
