This week, The Walking Man has been spotted around various New York City subway stations, awarding fans with prizes and terrifying unsuspecting straphangers with an unsettling smile.
The Japanese horror/video game adaptation Exit 8 arrives in theaters today, April 10, and to mark the occasion, NEON is inviting NYC horror fans to step into a surreal, liminal experience alongside the movie’s enigmatic figure, the Walking Man, inside Washington Square Park, and lucky fans can win free tickets to a screening of the film.
Directed by Genki Kawamura, Exit 8 adapts Kotake Create’s eerie walking simulator of the same name for the screen. The game places players in the role of an unseen protagonist navigating an endless Tokyo subway corridor in search of the titular escape. Kawamura’s film version stars Kazunari Ninomiya as The Lost Man and Yamato Kochi as the Walking Man.
Now out of the subway and above ground, Kochi is set to lead what NEON describes as a “cinematic journey” through the city, guiding fans toward the elusive Exit 8. His exact destination remains a mystery.
The only clue? Be at Washington Square Park at 12 pm today to find out. More details can be found on NEON’s official Instagram account.
