The Ordinary is launching a free bus between Williamsburg and Prospect Park this summer
Anyone who has ever tried to get from Williamsburg to Prospect Park without a bike, a car or a small miracle knows the struggle. Despite being in the same borough, the trip often involves a detour through Manhattan, a transfer or two and more than enough time spent waiting underground.
Now, an unlikely hero is stepping in: skincare brand The Ordinary.
Starting May 26, The Ordinary is launching a free, limited-run shuttle called The Ordinary Bus, connecting Domino Park in Williamsburg directly to Prospect Park. The service will run through June 9 and is designed to cut one of Brooklyn's most frustrating journeys roughly in half.
The route links two of the borough's most beloved warm-weather destinations: Domino Park on the Williamsburg waterfront and the eastern edge of Prospect Park near the Brooklyn Central Library. Instead of zigzagging across subway lines or backtracking into Manhattan, riders can hop on a direct shuttle and get where they're going with significantly less hassle.
The bus will operate on weekdays from noon to 7 pm and on weekends from 8 am to 7 pm. Stops are located at Kent Avenue and South 5th Street in Williamsburg and on Eastern Parkway in front of the library.
According to the company, the project is an extension of its broader philosophy around accessibility. The brand has built its reputation on offering straightforward skincare products at relatively affordable prices and it says the bus is intended to bring that same idea into the physical world by removing a transportation barrier that many Brooklynites encounter. (Of course, there's also something delightfully New York about a skincare company deciding the solution to a transit problem is simply to launch its own bus route.)
The service arrives just as park season kicks into high gear, offering an easier way to bounce between two of Brooklyn's most popular outdoor destinations. Whether you're heading to a picnic in Prospect Park, a waterfront stroll at Domino Park or just want a free ride across the borough, this might be one of the more useful brand activations New York has seen in a while.
The Ordinary Bus will run from May 26 through June 9. Riders will be able to track its location in real time at The Ordinary Bus website once the tracker goes live.
