There was a giant celebration downtown last week—except, it wasn’t real!

HBO Max’s The Gilded Age filmed a massive ticker tape parade on South William Street, where the historic Delmonico’s restaurant is, over the weekend and it transformed the block completely, according to videos taken by onlookers.

MickMickNYC on Instagram posted a bunch of videos she took behind the scenes, including highly detailed set dressing, elaborate period costumes and even some action from some of its stars.

“To completely transform modern New York City back to the 1880s, the crew laid down massive textured carpets over the asphalt to perfectly mimic historic stone streets,” she wrote on her post. “There are over 350 background actors fully dressed in period-accurate costumes, alongside dozens of real horse-drawn carriages filling the block.”

Carts with period-accurate souvenirs for what appears to be a celebration of the Statue of Liberty’s arrival from France. Extras held American flags while red, white and blue banners decorated the street and fake ads plastered nearby walls. Crew in windows threw confetti down at the parade and beautiful horses clomped through the set.

The drama series, from creator Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey), transports viewers to the Gilded Age in New York City, circa the 1880s, where old money families like the van Rhijn and new money families like the Russells vie for top social billing while trying to avoid scandal. It features a large ensemble cast including Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Audra McDonald, Cynthia Nixon and Christine Baranski.

While we didn't see a large group of the shows stars, at one point, MickMickNYC captured Larry Russell (Harry Richardson) running through the parade in a panic.

Gilded Age is filming its fourth season. Back in April, it filmed scenes at East 26th-28th Streets and Park Avenue South, at the Prince George Ballroom at 15 East 27th Street and in Harlem.

Just based on these videos, we are so hyped!
