One of Portugal’s most popular cultural festivals is taking over Brooklyn this June
One of the best times to visit Portugal is during Santos Populares.
Santos Populares (or the Popular Saints Festival) is a nationwide cultural celebration held in June. Honoring the Catholic patron saints, the city takes to the streets, lining them with paper garlands and colored lanterns, celebrating the tradition with music, dancing and tons and tons of eating and drinking. We happen to know a little something about this open-air street fest, as Lisbon's Time Out Market is known about town for its Santo António and São João parties. But if swinging a last-minute trip to Lisbon—one of the world's best food cities—just isn’t in the cards, don’t sweat: the lively festival is coming to Brooklyn.
Join the festivities of Santos Populares at Time Out Market New York, Dumbo, where Portugal House puts on an immersive cultural takeover to celebrate the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Beyond streaming exciting watch parties for every soccer game, Portugal House brings the country's energy to Brooklyn through music, food and wine showcases, and cultural activations, including the Santos Populares celebration.
Throughout the month, our fifth-floor outdoor terrace will channel the energy of Santos Populares, turning it into a Portuguese arraial, aka street fare. Expect a selection of Portuguese tapas—including grilled sardines, the fest's official dish—summer cocktails and wine, and colorful décor inspired by Lisbon and Porto.
You'll have three chances to get in on the celebrations, each corresponding to a saint: Saint Anthony (June 13), Saint John (June 24), and Saint Peter (June 29th). On June 13, the talented chef behind the Michelin-recognized restaurant, Quinta do Tedo Familia, chef Óscar Geadas, takes to the terrace for a live cooking demonstration. On June 24, the market will welcome Luís Montenegro, Prime Minister of Portugal, and on June 29, guests can expect live music performances by Alvim and Bluay to close out the festival.
The Santos Populares pop-ups run from 6 to 9pm on their respective dates and are completely free to attend—just bring your energy and appetite.
