Trade in your old luggage at this viral brand’s three-day NYC pop-up
If your trusty weekender has survived one too many overhead bins, subway platforms and questionable baggage carousels, BÉIS would like to make you an offer.
The viral travel brand founded by actress Shay Mitchell is taking over 312 Bowery for a three-day pop-up this week, and New Yorkers can bring in select pre-loved BÉIS bags to score 20% off something new. Starting tomorrow, July 16, and running through Saturday, “A BÉIS Exhibition: Designed for Departure” is part product launch, part luggage museum and part very stylish excuse to finally retire the bag you’ve been dragging through JFK since before the pandemic.
The centerpiece is an interactive archive charting the evolution of some of BÉIS’s best-selling designs, ranging from the brand’s original bags to its newly reimagined versions. Visitors can get hands-on with exhibits exploring the years of testing and tweaks behind the products, then shop the newest collection, build their own luggage sets and get complimentary embroidery. There’s also an editorial-style portrait setup, because apparently even your carry-on deserves a proper launch moment.
Now, about that trade-in: Visitors can bring a pre-loved BÉIS Weekender, Mini Weekender or Backpack to the pop-up and receive 20% off a new in-store purchase. The first 200 people through the doors each day will also get a gift.
Each afternoon comes with its own special programming, including a live charm bar hosted by NYC designer Susan Alexandra on Thursday. On Friday, the day is dedicated to baggage with a past, as upcycling designer Nicole McLaughlin will lead two pre-registration-required workshops, from 4 to 5:30pm and 6 to 7:30pm, teaching guests how to turn a worn-in BÉIS Weekender into something new.
Finally, on Saturday from 4 to 8pm, jewelry designer Martine Ali will take over with a bag jewelry bar inspired by her modular, chain-heavy silver pieces. Guests can build their own bag jewelry or pick up a free, ready-made charm with a bag purchase.
“When I was younger, I had this one bag that I lugged around with me everywhere until it was falling apart at the seams,” Mitchell said, describing her brand. “It was full of memories, and I wanted to build something that would be by people’s side in that same way.”
Consider this your old bag’s chance at a stylish retirement—and your excuse to leave the Bowery with a brand-new travel companion.
