This Brooklyn school was just ranked the best high school in all of New York City

Brooklyn students have another reason to feel superior to the rest of New York—and this time, there’s actual data to back up the bragging rights.

Brooklyn Latin School has been named the No. 1 high school in New York State in U.S. News & World Report’s newly released 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings. The Williamsburg school didn’t just beat every other high school in New York City; it came out ahead of every school in the entire state. It also landed at a very impressive No. 73 nationally.

The selective public school is part of New York City's public school system and enrolls 772 students in grades nine through 12. Students can take International Baccalaureate coursework and exams and the school boasts a 99-percent graduation rate and a college-readiness score of 96.3.

And Brooklyn didn’t stop at first place. Brooklyn Prospect Charter School - Csd 15.2 came in at No. 10 statewide and No. 635 nationally, with a 94-percent graduation rate and 730 students enrolled in grades nine through 12.

New York City schools, unsurprisingly, were all over the upper reaches of the list. The Baccalaureate School for Global Education in Long Island City ranked No. 3 in the state and No. 201 nationally, while Harlem Village Academy West Charter School ranked No. 5 statewide and The Clinton School ranked No. 6.

There is one important wrinkle in this year’s rankings, however: according to U.S. News, the New York State Department of Education did not authorize the College Board to share AP data with the publication. As a result, U.S. News calculated its College Readiness and College Curriculum Breadth scores for New York schools solely using participation and performance on International Baccalaureate exams.

Still, a No. 1 ranking is a No. 1 ranking. Between the pizza, the brownstones and now apparently the state’s top high school, Brooklyn is going to be even more lovably insufferable than usual. And frankly, it has earned this one.
