Your saved folder of museums exhibitions you keep meaning to visit is about to get some serious competition.

The inaugural Art Week NYC arrives November 11–14, bringing more than 80 galleries, plus museums and cultural organizations, into one very ambitious art crawl. The four-day event will connect exhibitions, walking tours, artist talks, gallery openings and special programming across Chelsea, Tribeca, the Lower East Side, the Upper East Side and beyond.

Launched by ARTnews, Art in America and Artforum, the initiative brings together some formidable names. Participating institutions include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim, the Frick Collection, the Brooklyn Museum, the Queens Museum and the Studio Museum in Harlem. The High Line, the New York Public Library, the International Center of Photography and White Columns are also participating.

A centerpiece of the week lands at the New Museum on Saturday, November 14. The museum, Art Week NYC’s primary institutional partner, will host a full day of public programming presented with Artforum under the banner “Art and the City.” The series comprises five conversations featuring artists, architects, filmmakers, critics and writers. Subjects include museum redesigns, artists’ growing interest in filmmaking, the economics of making art in New York and machine intelligence’s influence on studio practice.

The New Museum’s accompanying exhibition lineup includes its largest survey to date of Arthur Jafa’s work, Diego Marcon’s first New York solo museum exhibition, a show tracing 400 years of Bowery history and a new commission by Ho Tzu Nyen in its OMA-designed expansion.

“Art Week NYC is a new initiative that brings the art world together, in a city that has been historically shaped and transformed by artists,” said New Museum director Massimiliano Gioni.

Across the wider event, participating institutions will offer exhibitions and special programming that extend the action beyond the main gallery districts.

Additional programming and VIP experiences are still to be announced. Keep an eye on the organizers’ schedule as November approaches and check individual event details before plotting your route. With this much art on the agenda, even the most dedicated gallery hopper will need to make some tough choices.
